Neptune Township stretches from the Atlantic Ocean west to the Garden State Parkway (exit 100). The southern border is the beautiful Shark River estuary and the northern border is with the City of Asbury Park and Ocean Township. Neptune is a diverse community from the charmingly quaint seaside community of Ocean Grove, a national historic site; to Mid-town which is undergoing a municipal-led revitalization; to the riverside residential community of Shark River Hills; to the open spaces of Shark River Park and the commercial corridor on Route 66 in the west. Neptune Township is located in Eastern Monmouth County and is adjacent to Asbury Park, Wall, and Ocean. The major roadways in Neptune are Route 18, Route 33, and the Garden State Parkway.

Neptune City borders the beach communities of Avon and Bradley Beach. The town was incorporated in 881 and once stretched to the coastline. The portion of Neptune City which spanned the beachfront was conveyed to Bradley Beach in 1907. Borough Hall was built in 1902.
