About New Jersey License Suspensions
Clients often ask us how long their NJ licenses will be suspended if they are convicted of DWI. The length of the suspension depends in part on whether the DWI offense is a first or subsequent offense.
- For a first DWI offense, your license may be suspended for between three months and one year, depending on your blood alcohol concentration (BAC) and other factors.
- For a second DWI offense, your license may be suspended for two years.
- For a third DWI or subsequent offense, you face a 10-year license suspension. In some circumstances, you may permanently lose your license.
The suspension takes effect upon conviction. In order for your license to be restored after the suspension period ends, you must apply for reinstatement and pay a reinstatement fee.
