What Are Examples Of Cruelty Under New Jersey Law?

Any of the following acts constitutes cruelty to a child:

  1. Inflicting unnecessarily severe corporal punishment upon a child;
  2. Inflicting upon a child unnecessary physical or mental suffering or pain;
  3. Habitually tormenting, vexing, or afflicting a child;
  4. Any willful act of omission or commission where unnecessary mental or physical pain and suffering is caused or permitted to be inflicted on a child; or
  5. Exposing a child to unnecessary hardship, fatigue, or mental or physical strains that may tend to injure the health or physical or moral well-being of such child.
