What Does The Term “Uttering” Mean?

In New Jersey, “uttering” means presenting a forged document as genuine. Uttering includes the words or actions that indicate the forged document is genuine. To prove uttering, it is not necessary that the presenter of the forged document gained anything or that the person it was presented to lost anything or was injured in any way. If someone utters multiple forged documents in one transaction, it will be considered a single offense.
