What Records May Be Obtained from the Municipal Court?

Records Maintained by Municipal Courts in NJ

Copies of all Disorderly Persons Offenses and Traffic Summonses are maintained by the Municipal Court. This information is also recorded on the statewide computer data base. All other documents filed with the Court including, but not limited to, motions, briefs, and pleadings are also maintained by the Municipal Court. Additionally, proceedings of the Court are memorialized through audio recording.

Records Subject to Release to the Public

In accordance with the New Jersey Open Public Records Act ("OPRA") contained at N.J.S.A. 47:1A-1 et seq., all public records are to be made accessible to the public unless specifically excluded by law. The following records are not subject to release:

  1. Information relating to Search Warrants;
  2. Expunged Records;
  3. Records that have been Sealed or Impounded by the Court; and
  4. The Address & Telephone Number of a Victim of Domestic Violence.
